I have come to love my daily rituals. I come home in the evening, kick off my shoes and slip into my favorite brown furry Minnetonka moccasins. I drop my purse and keys and head over to the wooden table in my dining room where I have my laptop set up. I light my favorite candles and turn on Grooveshark to whatever I’m in the mood for that day. Lately it’s been Jack Johnson or Mumford & Sons, something to chill out with after a long day. But sometimes I turn on my favorite Social Distortion mix on my iPhone, and sing along as I start prepping for dinner. I wander about my kitchen, digging through my fridge and glancing at my pantry shelves for inspiration, if I don’t have an idea or a meal already picked out. My favorite time is the moment inspiration strikes, and I know EXACTLY what I want to make. I furiously start grabbing ingredients and lay them all over my counter, grab pots and pans and then relax- and let it flow. I pour myself a glass of local wine or a kombucha and start prepping. Chopping, dicing, mincing, stirring, all at my own pace. It’s soothing for me. Making a meal filled with flavor, health and love that I will soon get to enjoy. There’s not much better. Then afterwards- turning down the music and sitting down to a hot home cooked meal, finishing my glass of red, or maybe even white- and enjoying the moment, savoring each bite- is the very best ritual of the day.
